Product Description
Our geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) consists of a layer of natural sodium bentonite needle-punched or stitch-bonded between a woven and a nonwoven geotextile. When the bentonite hydrates it swells to several times its dry volume and forms a self-sealing, low-permeability barrier that is far thinner and much faster to install than a compacted clay layer.
Because the bentonite is confined between two geotextiles, the liner resists hydraulic shear and self-heals around small punctures — a punctured area reseals as water reaches the exposed bentonite. This makes GCL a practical choice where site space, weather or haul distance makes a traditional compacted clay liner uneconomic.
Installation is straightforward: panels are rolled out with an overlap and the overlap is sealed with granular bentonite. As a manufacturer we supply GCL in custom roll widths and lengths to suit your panel layout — send us your drawings and we will advise on the most economical layout.
Key Features
- Natural sodium bentonite with high swelling capacity
- Needle-punched or stitch-bonded reinforcement for dimensional stability
- Self-sealing: small punctures reseal as the bentonite hydrates
- Very low permeability at small thickness — saves excavation and haul volume
- Fast installation by unrolling, overlaps sealed with granular bentonite
- Resists hydraulic shear on slopes when properly anchored
Applications
- •Landfill caps, bases and side slopes
- •Pond, canal and reservoir lining
- •Underground waterproofing and cut-off walls
- •Waste containment and remediation barriers
- •Roof and tunnel waterproofing
